"Wax Wisdom" is an interactive web-based tutorial designed to guide novice snowboarders through the process of waxing their boards. This 6-week project seamlessly integrated UI/UX design, 3D modeling, motion graphics, and branding to create an engaging, educational experience. The website aims to empower new enthusiasts to take better care of their equipment, enhancing their snowboarding journey.
Recognizing the lack of comprehensive, user-friendly resources for snowboard maintenance, we developed a strategy centered on accessibility and visual engagement. By combining detailed 3D walkthroughs with clear, step-by-step instructions, the site bridges the knowledge gap for beginners eager to advance their skills both on and off the slopes. The desktop-oriented microsite format was chosen to maximize screen space for tutorials and interactive elements, ensuring an optimal learning experience.
The project demanded a multidisciplinary approach, leveraging various tools including Figma for UI/UX design, Cinema 4D with Redshift for 3D modeling and rendering, and After Effects for motion graphics. Our process began with extensive research on existing snowboarding resources and digital experiences, informing our initial concepts. We then moved into creating detailed wireframes, iterating on visual designs to find the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics.
Recognizing the central role of 3D assets in our design, we prioritized their development early in the process. This approach allowed us to shape the overall design direction more effectively, ensuring a seamless integration of 2D and 3D elements. As the project evolved, we refined the branding to complement the site's modern, minimalist aesthetic, carefully crafting a visual identity that resonated with our target audience.
Throughout the design phase, we focused on integrating interactive elements to enhance user engagement, constantly refining our approach based on our research and design principles. A significant challenge was finalizing the visual direction, which required multiple iterations and ultimately led to a comprehensive redesign to better align with the project's goals and user expectations.
The final deliverable was an animated prototype demonstrating the user journey through the site. The project successfully synthesized complex information into an accessible, visually compelling format. It showcases the ability to blend technical skills with creative problem-solving, resulting in a resource that fills a clear gap in the snowboarding community.
